Eligibility For Joining Weight2Lose Programs

Do I need a referral to join Weight2lose programs?
No. You may join Weight2Lose programs without a referral. Upon your first visit we will get in touch with your family physician to ensure we have all the necessary information. (i.e. Bloodwork, medical condition diagnosis, medications, etc.). If you do not have a family doctor, our physicians will provide all appropriate requisition forms on the first day of your program.
I received a phone call (or a letter) on behalf of my doctor to join Weight2lose program. What is the next step?
Please call our main office at (416) 636- 3237 to schedule your initial consultation in a location closest to you. (or 1-844-636-3237 for patients outside Toronto area)
I do not need to lose weight. Can I still join a Weight2Lose Clinic program?
Yes, we have numerous health and fitness oriented services besides weight loss such as: personalized meal planning for a wide range of scenarios (e.g. IBS, pregnancy, etc.) or personal fitness goals, health education, cognitive behavioral therapy, fitness program design, personal training (in a private studio setting or virtually via videoconferencing at the comfort of your home). Different locations may offer additional health or therapeutically oriented services not listed on our website.
How do I know if I qualify to join Weight2Lose programs?
Anyone interested in optimizing their health, mindset, nutrition or fitness can join Weight2lose. Our medical staff will help you select the most appropriate program in line with your health goals.
Can I join a personal training program without enrolling in your medically led program?
Yes. You may enroll in personal training only.

Attendance Questions

How often am I expected to attend sessions?
Average attendance is once per week, with higher frequency available (depending on the service). In case you are unable to do that, twice per month is acceptable as well. In the maintenance phase (after reaching your health goal) you may check in once per month for accountability and ongoing support.
How much notice do I need to provide to cancel or reschedule an appointment?
We require a minimum 24 hour notice. This policy applies to all Weight2Lose providers.
What if I fail to provide a 24 hour notice or miss my session?
In most cases, the first time will be a warning. The second time, a $50 penalty will apply to each appointment missed. This policy applies to all Weight2Lose providers.
What is the typical length of a Weight2lose program?
Weight2lose programs do not have a set timeline and may vary in length depending on the program. We help patients in accordance with their chronic conditions, unique health objectives and/or weight loss goals. Typically programs range from 3-12 months.
How long will my visits be?
This varies. Visit lengths depend on the amount of sessions scheduled in a row and may range from 20 minutes when facilitated independently by a medical doctor to 90 minutes when several appointments are scheduled in a row (e.g. Doctor, dietitian, trainer, etc.). We are flexible and our goal is to accommodate your busy schedule.

Choosing a Location

How can I find a clinic closest to where I live (or work)?
We are working with numerous partners and are continuously adding new clinic sites. Please submit your inquiry or call our main office line and one of our staff will help you locate the most convenient location. Please contact us directly to schedule your initial consultation. Some of our programs may also be offered at home via videoconferencing.
What is a Weight2Lose telemedicine appointment?
Weight2Lose physicians, registered dietitians, clinical nutritionists and virtual personal trainers utilize Ontario Telemedicine Network videoconferencing (and additional technologies in locations outside Ontario) to facilitate nutrition education, personalized meal planning, cognitive behavioral therapy, virtual fitness program design and other services. Our telemedicine appointments are just like regular appointments, only our medical professionals are speaking to you on a monitor.

Will I receive any manuals, resources and “homework”?
Yes. Patients receive practical program manuals, personalized meal plans, shopping lists, recipes and numerous additional handouts applicable to each patient’s health goals and/or medical conditions.
I am a vegetarian (or vegan). Would I be able to incorporate my dietary requirements by following the Weight2Lose program?
Yes, we support vegetarian and vegan diets. Unlike most commercial programs, Weight2Lose nutrition plans are customized to your exact lifestyle and eating preferences (our programs are not based on a generic food list). Your personalized meal plans, shopping lists and recipes will match your specific eating and lifestyle preferences to ensure a sustainable result.
I am pregnant (or postpartum). Will Weight2Lose program be customized to my needs?
Yes, we can develop pregnancy and postpartum nutrition plans.
Is Weight2Lose suitable for those who observe laws of Kashrut, Halal or other religious preferences?
Yes, Weight2Lose nutrition plans are customized to accommodate any lifestyle and/or religious preferences.
I have a very busy lifestyle. I often eat out (and/or travel). Can Weight2Lose address my requirements?
Our physicians and clinical dietitians will provide a wide range of tools and strategies on how to order foods in restaurants, eat while you travel and during work functions.
Does Weight2Lose offer a maintenance program?
Yes. Generally, patients attend their clinic once per month to ensure successful maintenance and to avoid a relapse.

OHIP Coverage

Are all Weight2Lose consultations with a weight loss physician covered by OHIP?
Yes. All counseling services with your medical doctor are free of charge (covered by OHIP in Ontario).
Is there a fee for my initial wellness consultation?
No. Your initial consultation is free of charge.

Insurance and Clinic Fee

Do you accept group benefits coverage?
Yes, some insurance plans may provide coverage for a nutritionist or a dietitian, yet coverage is not guaranteed and dependent on your specific plan. If you would like to use your benefits, please bring your coverage details to your initial consultation.
Can you direct bill my insurance company?
At the moment, due to the wide range of insurance plans, we do not offer direct billing. We require that you pay us directly (for non- OHIP services), and we will be happy to provide an invoice for your insurance provider.
Is there a clinic fee? Which Weight2Lose services are not covered by OHIP?
Yes, there is a clinic fee for non-OHIP services. Certain services offered by your Weight2Lose clinic are not be covered by Ontario Health Insurance Plan (or comparable plans in other regions). Such services and resources add value to your program and may vary from clinic to clinic. “Non-insured services” and resources may include Assessments, Personalized Meal Planning and Shopping List Development, Specialized Testing, Educational Patient Manuals, Fitness Services, Supplementation Therapy, and many others. To reduce administrative time and provide a cost saving advantage to patients, your clinic may offer flat fees instead of charging for each service and resource separately. Privacy

Is my privacy and personal health information protected?
Yes. Our medical team is committed to protect your personal health information. In the past 6 years, Weight2Lose exchanged patient information with over 750 medical doctors across Ontario. Weight2Lose is bound to maintain strict confidentiality consistent with the requirements of the ‘Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004’, with all information we receive in the course of our work with each patient and their family doctor.
